Part 2: Implementation Steps and Tools

In this section of the tool kit, we explore the practical aspects of creating, implementing, evaluating, disseminating and sustaining a mental health promotion initiative in your community. To help illustrate the process, we draw on examples from the three projects that were introduced in the previous section.

To clarify the common processes of mental health promotion initiatives, Part 2 is broken into 6 chapters:

Chapter 1 : Analyzing community resources and needs

Chapter 2: Planning your project

Chapter 3: Securing resources

Chapter 4: Carrying out your project

Chapter 5: Evaluating your project

Chapter 6: Disseminating your results and ensuring continuity

Each chapter includes:

  • an explanation of the activities involved;
  • case examples from the experiences of those involved in the programs;
  • practical tools, exercises and guides to get you going;
  • a list of tips based on people’s experiences with mental health promotion in practice;
  • a summary at the end of each section;
  • an annotated resource list to help you find more detailed information on each step.
