Recognizing when there's a problem

It is normal for adolescents to undergo changes in behavior. Sometimes, though, it's difficult for loved ones to know where to draw the line. When is "my kid being just a kid", and when is it real trouble?

Being aware of the early warning signs of mental health problems and mental illness can help parents know when something potentially serious is happening so that you can get help as quickly as possible.

Serious mental health problems usually build up over time and/or are triggered by certain factors and stresses. Gradual changes can be hard to notice and may just seem like normal adolescent behaviour or growing up.
