The decision to seek employment,
attend college, enter an apprenticeship, or go on to university
can be a complicated one. A student with mental illness will need
to take into account how this may affect their ability to reach
their educational goals.
Parents can help their teens work through some of the important
questions s/he will need to consider when thinking about their future
after they finish high school, such as:
How will they handle the demands and stresses of higher education?
Is the particular institution s/he is interested in attending able
to accommodate his/her particular needs?
Does s/he have any cognitive problems that will make it less likely
for them to succeed in certain subjects?
