TIM O’HALLORAN’S STORY
In 1969, actor Tim O’Halloran’s 12-year-old sister Shawn tried to commit suicide for the first time. Over the course of her life, Shawn attempted suicide 17 more times. Shawn received several diagnoses in the 42 years that she struggled with mental illness, including schizophrenia and bipolar disorder and was treated with numerous prescription drugs from age of 12.
After 40 years of mental health issues and the diagnoses and treatments that went with that, Shawn was diagnosed with Pseudoxanthoma elasticum, a tissue disorder which ended her life.
In his video, I Know Someone Like Shawn, actor and documentary filmmaker Tim O’Halloran says
“Her journey affected all of us [her family] profoundly…Her desire for acceptance and love, took her to the darkest places both emotionally and physically. And we [her family] were there through the thick and thin of it.”
TIM GETS LOUD
Tim decided to take action by creating a video and sharing his and Shawn’s story.
“I have blamed and been outraged by the doctors, the social workers, the pharmaceutical companies, the drug dealers and failed education system but now it’s time to do something positive to help others and stop blaming and start doing. Here’s my story and my families story … most importantly here’s Shawn’s story….”
