KPGA Charity Classic Golf Tournament – 2017
For the 3rd consecutive year, the Annual KPGA Charity Classic Golf Tournament – 2017 will be held on Thursday afternoon, August 24th 2017 at the prestigious Lionhead Golf Club located in the west- end of GTA.
KPGA stands for Kashmiri Pandits Golf Association. It was established over a decade ago and has been going strong ever since. KPGA is an informal association and has no political agenda whatsoever. We love Golf and wish to promote it in whatever capacity we can.
“ Just Golf” are the two words that sum up the underlying philosophy of all our members. At KPGA we are proud to have a diverse mix of people who love the game and love each others’ company both on and off the course.
Most of our members are the original inhabitants of the beautiful valley of Kashmir in Northern India and lived there as a minority for long. Time was when -‘Kashmiriyat’- was a way of life there. A value system that embraced and practised mutual respect, tolerance, harmony and co-existence allowing social and cultural space for all communities. That, however, has changed, but the concept still lives in our hearts & minds. In line with that thinking and love for the game of Golf, the “Annual KPGA Charity Classic Golf Tournament” got incepted and we are holding the 3rd event this year for which we are seeking your support and participation.
This year, the funds generated through this charity tournament will be donated to “Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)”. Founded in 1918, the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) is the most established, most extensive community mental health organization in Canada. Through a presence in hundreds of neighbourhoods across every province, CMHA provides advocacy and resources that help to prevent mental health problems and illnesses, support recovery and resilience, and enable all Canadians to flourish and thrive.

More than 6.7 million people in Canada are living with a mental health problem. Of these, about 1 million are children and adolescents between 9 and 19 years of age. ( Source: Smetanin et al. – 2011)
Mental illnesses can take many forms, just as physical illnesses d0. Examples include depression, bi-polar disorders, schizophrenia, self-injury (even suicides). Mental illnesses are still feared and misunderstood by many people and, unfortunately, social stigma attached to mental illness remains a huge barrier.
