Mental illness touches us all -- one way or another. 1 in 5 Canadians will experience mental illness each year. Most of us have a family member, a friend or a colleague who has suffered from mental illness or some mental health problems. Yet, in spite of the scale of this challenge, Canada spends only 5% of its health budget on mental health services -- much less than on any other major illness.
Having a mental illness is not like breaking a bone - where one can reset it and wait for it to heal. Living with a mental illness is a 'work in progress'. Support is often needed throughout people's lives - support from families, friends and entire communities -- support from organizations and people like you.
