Overview - Golf for Life XI

Golf for Life XI was held June 23, 2010, at Andersons Creek Golf Club in Stanley Bridge on a great day.  The day started with lots of promise and although it turned a little cooler towards the end, it was a wonderful afternoon overall.

Once again, Golf for Life (GFL) had a full slate of 36 teams (144 players) participating and, as has been the case for the past several years, we were fortunate to have many returning teams.

With the great support we received from the participants, plus the backing provided by our Title, Gold, Silver, Bronze, Hole-in-One, Silent Auction and Prize sponsors, we had our best year ever, netting approximately $35,000 that will help support a great cause, the Signals of Suicide Program!

Shotgun Start

All set for the shotgun start!

With the support of our sponsors, our group of dedicated volunteers (32) plus CMHA/PEI staff, GFL participants took full advantage of the opportunities the day presented.

Most teams fared very well on the course and even those who struggled a bit appeared to be having fun.  As one golfer stated "It sure beats sitting behind a desk on a day like this!"

                - Thanks everyone for your enthusiastic participation!! -

With increased tent space this year, our Silent Auction offerings were quite extensive and provided plenty of choice for all participants; we had four food/drink sites set up on the course; we had a UPEI student music quartet offering their stylings before and during the early portion of the tournament and our after-tournament musical entertainment (David Doyle) was offered again this year which certainly helped make the time pass more quickly while the scores were being tallied and the contest winners determined.  Although we had four significant hole-in-one prizes up for grabs this year, once again we had no hole-in-one winners, although some came VERY close ... maybe next year!

To help generate a focus for our golfers and to emphasize the reason why Golf for Life is held, a 'kick-off' ceremony was held just prior to getting the tournament underway.  Principal Ron Carragher from Birchwood Intermediate School, eloquently spoke about the value of the Signals of Suicide Program in his school and what this program means for both the studentsand the teachers.

Tournament Results
Below is a table  showing the GFL XI team and on-course contest winners.  Due to some unfortunate mistakes this year, the course layout did not match the contests listed in our tournament information, on our contest signs and on our scorecards.  We apologize for any confusion this may have caused!  Although some of the locations and contests were different, fortunately they happened to match the number of prizes we had available and all prizes were awarded.
