Early Psychosis Intervention Text size Print

"Psychosis is everybody's business!"

Each year in Canada as many as 10,000 young people may experience a first episode of psychosis. The emergence of a psychotic illness is a distressing and confusing time not only for the young person but also for family and friends. Early detection of psychosis and appropriate treatment for the young adult and the family offer the best chance for full recovery.

The role of the community is critical in early psychosis intervention regardless of the availability of dedicated EPI clinical services and is relevant to each step along the continuum of early identification, treatment and normalized recovery during the return to school or work. Informed and engaged communities are essential to the effective practice of early psychosis intervention.

Psychosis is a medical condition.
It can happen to anyone.
It can be successfully treated.

This website provides information about a number of topics including: early psychosis intervention; Canadian early psychosis initiatives; resources for families and communities; a framework for strategic planning; and a number of links.
